2nd Place: Affandi Museum

Introduction of Affandi Museum
Affandi Museum is laying at Jl. Laksda Adi Sucipto 167, Yogyakarta. This street has a famous name called Solo street because it connects two big cities (that is Yogyakarta and Solo). The museum which is placed at the west of the Gajah Wong river has its wide area for about 3500 are. This area consist of the museum itself and the building used to Affandi's house. The unusual land surface gave an inspiration to Affandi to build unique building on it. The result is, an unique integrated environment planned by him self

First Gallery

The first gallery was finished in 1962 and used for showing room of his works in an exhibition aula . This gallery officially opened in 1974 by Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra who is the General Culture Director in that year. The gallery has a unique shape. Unlike the others museum, this gallery is very simple but has a high taste of arts. Plus, the legendary Affandi's paintings inside this building.

First Gallery

Second Gallery

In 1987, Presiden Soeharto gave a donation to build the second gallery which has 351,5 are. In June 9, 1988, this gallery was officially opened by the Ministry of Culture and Education in that year, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hassan. The architecture of this gallery has a little difference with the first gallery. Finally, this architecture type is non-formally starting to be the standard architecture for this museum. The second gallery consist of Affandi's art works and other famous artists.

Third Gallery

The third gallery was built by the Affandi's Foundation and finished in 1999. This gallery then officially opened by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X in May 2000. This gallery was built to fulfill the Affandi's last wishes who wants enough place to store his artworks and whole paintings collections. The architecture use the initial 
unique architecture -- a banana leaf shaped roof.
Third Gallery

Affandi's House

As the part of the museum, Affandi's house has a roof shaped like banana leaf. The house which made from woods has two floors. The upper is a Affandi's personal room. As an addition, the down floor is use for refreshing and also has a garage. It is very comfort to enjoy a relax time in the down floor. A relax atmosphere with high artistic environment around you.
